Don’t Beat the Donkey!
“In a fit of rage, Balaam beat the animal (donkey) again... Then the Lord gave the donkey the ability to speak. ‘What have I done that deserves your beating me three times?’ it asked Balaam.” [Numbers 22:27-28]
Ever had a live donkey verbally speak to you in your native language? Yeah – didn’t think so! I haven’t either! I’ve had some people speak to me that sounded like donkeys, but that is another subject! (Did I really just say that?!) Much to Balaam’s surprise, not only does the donkey actually speak to Balaam, BUT then Balaam has a conversation with the donkey! Are you kidding me? If a donkey ever talked to me, I’m not having a conversation with it! There is a camera recording it somewhere I’m sure! But upon conclusion of the donkey pointing out to Balaam that there was a reason he didn’t go down the path Balaam wanted it to, God opened Balaam’s eyes and revealed to him what would have happened to him if he had continued on the wrong path.
Unfortunately, I’ve been there. Many times I tried opening the door that God closed. I’ve tried to convince myself to go forward when the pathway was blocked time and time again.
Have you been there? Here’s a tip from someone with lots of experience: DON’T BEAT THE DONKEY! It just might be the thing God is using to keep you from making an unwise decision. Yes, you have heard it before, but take it from someone who knows: When God closes the door, He always opens a better one!
