What GPS Do You Use?
“Since you have never traveled this way before…” [Joshua 3:4]
What do you use for your guidance system in your vehicle? Siri? Google Maps? WAYZ? Some other app? When I was growing up, we used a good ol’ fashioned paper map. Then, there was a thing called an Atlas that contained maps of all 50 states and smaller maps of the major cities within those states. I still enjoy looking at a map because I can see it ahead of time and visualize where and when to turn. Besides, I don’t like trusting some faceless voice directing me to my next destination! I’ve heard horror stories from friends and neighbors about their unplanned dirt road excursions, all thanks to some phone app.
A long time ago, the children of Israel were on an excursion to a land that was completely unknown. The only problem (and it was a BIG problem) was that there was this body of water called the Jordan River lying between them and their ultimate destination. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Jordan River was overflowing its banks beyond flood stage. However, the children of Israel had the best guidance system available to them – God’s Positioning System, the ultimate GPS! He had their route all planned out well in advance. There was no reason for them to search for another “app” to guide them. Joshua, who was now leading this nation of people, instructed them by saying, “Since you have never traveled this way before…”, here is the guidance system we are going to use. As Joshua led them, and they trusted their GPS, they were able to successfully cross the Jordan River.
What about you? Are you on a journey trusting your own GPS? Feeling lost and unsure of where you are headed? Hopeless? Maybe the road ahead looks fraught with uncertainty and even seems impassable?
There is hope! There is a way out! His name is Jesus! He is the absolute best GPS you can use!
What will you trust to get you to your next destination?
