Ever Been Fed By Birds?
“…for I have commanded them (ravens) to bring you food.” [1 Kings 17:4]
Ever heard the statement, “That’s for the birds”? You probably have at some time in your life. I heard it plenty of times growing up. But what about this: “Have you ever been fed by birds?” Yeah, probably not! Hasn’t happened to me either! There is one person that can say they have been fed by birds: Elijah the Tishbite. He lived a long time ago in a far, distant land. While the location may not matter, the history lesson is still applicable.
God instructed Elijah to go and hide by the Kerith Brook. While there, Elijah was to drink water from the brook. As for food, God had instructed the (birds) ravens to bring Elijah food. Now if I’m Elijah, I’m not up for eating worms for any length of time! Fortunately for Elijah, God didn’t say worms. Instead, the ravens would supply him with food! Even still, if I’m Elijah, I’m thinking…”this I gotta see.”
Here is what happened: “The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook” (1 Kings 17:6). Bread and meat from the beak and feet of ravens…can you imagine that?! God wanted to prove to Elijah that He had not forgotten or forsaken him. He still cared about Elijah; he had commanded the birds to provide his sustenance each morning and evening!
What about you? Are you feeling forgotten, forsaken, or abandoned? Wondering if God will really come through this time? Will He provide the very thing you need at this moment in your life?
Take comfort from Elijah’s experience! If God can have birds bring a human food in their time of need, He is more than able to provide for you!
