Take the Step

“…take a few steps into the river and stop there.” [Joshua 3:8]

I can’t swim! Didn’t grow up around water, rarely went to a swimming pool, and almost drowned in a lake! Yes, I’m afraid of water! Consequently, I don’t do boats, don’t like bridges over water, and don’t even like flying over bodies of water! I know – it’s crazy!! But even more crazy is what God instructed the Jewish priests to do while standing on the brink of the flooded Jordan River – “Go ahead – take the first step into the water and stop there.” Seriously?? Not me – no way! There was this “huge” obstacle between their current location in the wilderness and their God-given destiny – the Promised Land.

Ever been there? I have – more times than I care to recall! Is God wanting to lead you out of your wilderness into your God-given potential? Is He wanting to take you from the status quo to the destiny for which you were born? Have you ever had the sense or belief that God was asking you to do something, but it didn’t make sense on paper or in your monthly budget?

It’s time for action! TAKE THE STEP! Stop looking at the “Jordan River” in front of you and start looking to the God who is leading you! Go ahead - step into the river; then stand and stop there! Even if you can’t swim – trust me, the first step may be scary, but it is worth it!
