“Who You Gonna Call?”
“Lord, to whom would we go?” [John 6:68]
In 1984, the movie Ghostbusters became an instant hit. A quartet of friends decided to launch a business of “de-ghosting” haunted locations. One of the major lines of the movie and the hit song of the soundtrack asked, “Who you gonna call?” The answer was always “Ghostbusters.”
Although the movie was a comedy, the question it posed was very serious. When things are not going the way you planned, when things seem out of place, when the lab report comes back with a difficult diagnosis, when the relationship appears to be over, or when the finances don’t meet the expenses, the question really becomes, “Who are you going to call on to come to the rescue?” Yourself? Your friends? Substance abuse? Addiction? A religion?
May I suggest another alternative? Jesus! He offers a relationship not a religion. He offers real peace, real answers, and real hope! While the situation or diagnosis may remain unchanged and difficult, Jesus will provide a way through the circumstances.
In the Holy Scriptures, Jesus asked His disciples if they were going to leave Him when the going got tough. One of His followers, Peter, gave this reply: “Lord, who else would we turn to? You alone have the words of life!”
YES! Jesus alone has the words of life!
So, here’s the question: When things aren’t going as expected for your life, who are you going to call?
