Is It Too Late?

“Then, just as they were sitting down to eat…”.  [Genesis 37:25]

Some of my favorite words to hear in our house are, “Time to eat.”  These words are music to my ears and a balm for my stomach!  Do not get in the way of my path to the table or it could be ugly!

Unfortunately, the above verse has absolutely nothing to do with eating, but everything to do with timing.  Joseph had 11 brothers who despised him because he was their father’s favorite.  Consequently, they schemed a plan to rid the family of this son.  The brothers plotted to physically kill him; however, at the last minute, one of the brothers intervened and convinced the other brothers to throw Joseph into a cistern instead.  This way they wouldn’t technically kill him (yeah right!).  So, the brothers threw Joseph into a cistern, where death was certain.

Ever been there?  Oh, perhaps not a real “cistern” but a place from which there seemed to be no way out?  The doctor’s report is worse than expected.  The job you were counting on falls through at the last minute.  Your marriage seems over.  No more money in the bank account.   Your voice has gone unheard, and to make things worse, it seems your prayers are not heard either.  You shout, “Where are you God?”  All hope appears gone.  The result seems inevitable.

“Then, just as they were sitting down to eat” a sudden unexpected turn of events occurred.  Mere coincidence?  Was it Joseph’s “lucky day”?  Actually, it was none of those!  God saw Joseph’s desperate situation and acted on his behalf.  Joseph’s life was not over for he had a plan and purpose to fulfill.

No matter how desperate the situation, no matter what the doctors say, no matter what the balance sheet shows, no matter how deep the cistern, God knows and He sees you right where you are.  Never give up!  This is the perfect time for God to do what only He can do.  God is never late!

Is it time for a “just as they were sitting down to eat” God-moment?
