Help!
“… and no one else can help me.” [Psalm 22:11]
A few years ago, my wife and I purchased a AAA membership just in case she ever had car trouble and needed to call someone for help. Since I traveled so much, we thought this would be the answer if she was in distress from a car issue.
HELP! Have you heard someone yell this or have you ever said this word? It is a universal cry from someone in distress or great need.
I have said and prayed this word many times! In previous posts, I have briefly described my medical journey a couple years ago. I recall lying in the middle of the night too weak to move and simply uttering the phrase, “Help me Jesus.” Then too, there have been other circumstances in my life that caused me to cry out to God for help.
What about you? Ever been in distress or such great need that all you could scream or whisper was “Help?” Ever faced a situation that seemed out of control, with no one to turn to for help? You are not alone; we have all been there at some point in our lives.
David, the shepherd boy turned king, provides a glimmer of hope! David has been crying out to God to for help. He begins this Psalm by exclaiming, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help?” King David was in deep distress pleading with God for help. Even in the midst of his anguish, David addresses God with a tiny bit of hope. He says, “Do not stay far away from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me.”
David gives us the answer and source to our cry for help—God! All too often, I looked to others, to a book, and to myself for the answer. I quickly discovered, there was no one who could help me except the one who created me!
There is hope today! There is someone who answers your desperate cry for help.
Where do you turn to when you need help?
