Before He Finished Praying…

“Before he had finished praying…”.  [Genesis 24:15]

Do you believe in prayer?  Do you pray?  If so, what do you pray about?  To whom do you pray?

Can’t we just ease into it today?  After all, it’s the middle of the week and the beginning of a new month. Perhaps some easier questions to get our minds going?  Sorry, let’s just jump right to the point!

Before we can answer the above questions, perhaps we should answer this question:  What is your view of God?  Author A.W. Tozer said, “Your view of God will determine how you live the rest of your life.”

So, how do you view God?  Do you view him as Santa Claus, asking for your wants and expecting Him to deliver?  As a grandpa—always loving and giving you whatever you want to keep you happy?  As angry—if I do one bad thing, He is waiting to hit me over the head with a club? As unfair, because bad things shouldn’t happen to good people?  Or, do you view Him as the one true GOD—the one who loves you more than you can ever imagine and always answers for your good?

In Genesis 24, Abraham sent his servant back to his homeland to find a wife for his son, Isaac.  The servant had zero idea how he was supposed to find the perfect wife in a distant land, but he had sworn an oath to Abraham that he would do just that.

So, off the servant goes in search of a bride (This was before The Bachelor!).  The servant had observed Abraham pray to God, so he thought he would try it for himself.  He uttered a prayer asking for favor at the first stop he made back in Abraham’s homeland.  His prayer was so specific that the only possible way it could be answered was by the God of Abraham!  There could be no other explanation because too many “coincidences” would have to occur to make it possible.  Guess what happened?  “Before he finished praying,” the scenario began unfolding exactly as the servant had prayed.  Only God could have orchestrated the timing and events at that precise moment in history.

So, do you think your life’s circumstances are merely fate, luck, or chance?  A proper alignment of the stars?  Just a roll of the dice?

What if there really is a God who wants to be involved in every detail of your life on a 24/7/365 basis?

Go ahead, try to talking to Him today.
