Am I Really Blessed?
“May the Lord bless you and protect you.” [Numbers 6:24]
Bless – what does that word really mean? Occasionally, before a meal, we might hear someone say, “Let’s bless the food.” Sometimes, there is a very good reason to pray before eating someone else’s cooking! But other times, it seems these words are spoken as a formality. We say, “Bless you” or “God bless you” after hearing someone sneeze. Furthermore, we often associate this word with monetary abundance, wealth, and possessions. Unfortunately, the word “bless” in our current culture is another word that has lost its true definition.
The Hebrew word for bless is “barak” or “Brakah.” While researching this word I discovered its general meaning is “one of good favor bestowed on another.” This could either be expressed as a tangible gift or by a verbal word spoken over someone. More specifically, to “bless God” means to kneel as an act of adoration, and when God “blesses” His followers, it describes His favor on the righteous.
Do you want God’s blessing on your life? Would you like God’s favor to shine on you today? Me too! However, His blessings may not be financial or material. We might find ourselves rich in relationships, which is far superior to any financial prosperity. “Blessings, whether given or received, help us recognize God in our lives and draw closer to Him. It is not a recognition of riches, rather a humble confession that we are not self-sufficient.”[1] What a great reminder for each of us! Any blessings God bestows on us are to be used to bless others!
Are you open to receiving God’s blessings? Open your heart to Him today and see all that HE will do!
NOTE: It has been my distinct honor and privilege to have shared every Wednesday with you these last 18 months. Every Winning Wednesday blog was something God taught me. I have learned and grown so much while on this journey with you. Hopefully, you have gleaned a nugget or two along the way. This will be the last post for the foreseeable future. These Winning Wednesday thoughts will continue to live here on the PathBlaze website! Thank you for joining me on this journey!
I say this blessing over you:
“May the Lord bless you and protect. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.” [Numbers 6:24-26]
